Just a buck

McDonald's has a big ad campaign advertising their sweet iced tea for "just a buck." TV commercials, billboards, print ads. That's a pretty big investment in ads, isn't it?

Not really, when you think about it! How many tea bags & sugar can you buy for a dollar? McDonalds has bigger buying power then a supermarket shopper, so consider that as well. If you sat down and crunched the numbers, I am sure you could make a glass of tea for less then 10 cents!

Grocery prices are higher now with the rising cost of fuel, so maybe its time to examine what we are buying at the store and how much the actual costs would be if we made some things at home.

The bread we buy is $3.79 at Publix. I know for a fact I could make a loaf of bread for less then that. And it would taste better. No preservatives. The only problem with making bread is that my bread is so damn good, portion control is difficult!

What could you make at home for less money then what you can buy prepared??

Well, dog treats are super easy and cheap to make at home. Rawhides might take some more work, though.

Hmm, I don't know if homebrewed beer is cheaper than micro brews or not...

Hey, here's an interesting article about eats on the cheap. This should prove popular in Detroit, Land of Dollar Stores.
